A Night Of Laughter With Joe Avati

Renowned comedian Joe Avati is set to bring his hilarious new show, When I Was Your Age, to Kedron-Wavell as part of his 2024 World Tour.
Known for speaking candidly about taboo topics without resorting to profanity, Joe’s latest show will delve into the generational differences of today’s youth compared to his teenage years in the 1980s.
Born and bred in Australia as a second-generation Italian, Joe said the audience could expect his usual “ethnic comedy” delivered in a very different way.
“I am a lot more honest in this show and whilst I still don’t swear, I don’t hold back in terms of being politically correct and that’s what my audience is lapping up these days,” he said.
“There is so much new material in the show and as a performer, it’s so exciting to exhibit material no one has heard before. It’s exciting because the sound of an audience hearing something for the first time repeats over and over.”
In When I Was Your Age, Joe offers a side-splitting take on the complexities of modern-day parenting, as well as the minefield of “cancel culture” and the “woke brigade”.
“The technological differences are huge and I talk about how kids today can watch any movie any time compared to us who had to wait months to create a VHS Netflix library,” he said. “Also, kids today have helicopter parents who hover above them. We had submarine parents no one knew where they were.”
Joe frequently performs sold-out shows in Australia, the UK, the USA and Canada where he draws on his upbringing in a traditional Italian family.
“Unlike films where you have to record them, edit them and release them, which takes months, sometimes years, I can write a routine today and deliver it tomorrow and I can immediately get feedback,” he said. “You can’t get that with any other art form.”
Joe has previously wowed crowds at Kedron-Wavell as part of the Il Dago franchise and he said he was looking forward to returning to the venue.
“I like the down-to-earth crowds that the venue attracts who just want to genuinely laugh,” he said.
