Major Developments In Mcdowall Ward

In the past 12 months, McDowall Ward has seen big developments. From upgrading play parks and community grants, to road repairs and wildlife awareness monitors, residents have given feedback and the office for McDowall Ward have listened.

Among the upgrades, Shand Street Park Bike Skills Loop was opened on 15 April 2022. This was part of a larger project of major refurbishments to Shand Street Park, and adjoining Grinstead Park and Corbett Street Park, which were also recently reopened. The project was targeted at children and teens who are BMX, skating and scooter enthusiasts. This was an opportunity to enhance the existing recreational features at Shand Street Park by upgrading the skate half pipe, and by installing a new skills loop track with scooter and skate features.

New stairs have been added to the Milne Hill Reserve, the final step in a series of projects which Council has invested in to upgrade the surrounding walking tracks and restore the viewing deck. The lookout provides fantastic views across the Chermside Hills Reserve and beyond, and these stairs will provide a more direct route from the car park just off Hamilton Road so that the lookout is easier to access and enjoy. The new stairs are expected to be opened on Friday 15 July 2022.

Local parents provided feedback that they would like to access toilet facilities at Keong Park, a very popular meeting place for families. The park offers a playground, barbeques, picnic areas, a basketball court and outdoor exercise equipment. These new toilets will mean that families will be able to stay and enjoy their local park for longer. The toilets are expected to have opened on Friday 15 July 2022.

A citywide Kerbside Collection will be running again this year, with Stafford and Stafford Heights being serviced the week commencing Monday 14 November, Aspley, McDowall and Bridgeman Downs from 28 November, and Chermside West from 21 November.
