Jazzing It Up On The Northside
Hear your favourite songs like never before when they get the jazz treatment at the North Brisbane Jazz Club this month.

The Ingrid James Quintet will be performing music from the 30s to the 60s and 70s, from Cole Porter and Carlos Jobin to The Beatles and The Beach Boys ' with a jazz twist.

Queensland award-winning vocalist Ingrid James said the Love is All You Need show would feature everything from cool swing to warm bossa novas and sambas.

There's a refreshing element of rearranging timeless melodies and reinventing the way they are presented, Ingrid said. The essence of the timeless melodies will be there so people can still enjoy them for what they are in their own right ' the very reason why they are timeless.

As a musician who has performed all over the world including Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London and the Blue Note in Monaco, Ingrid said she felt just as at home performing in a duo, trio, quartet or quintet, as she did with a big band or orchestra.

She has worked extensively with the other musicians in the quintet ' pianist John Reeves, OJ Necomb on bass, drummer Paul Hudson, and Paul Armstrong on vocals and trumpet.

Ingrid said she was excited Kedron-Wavell had been inspired by music and the arts.

I think we've all been missing live music during COVID, and it's lovely that they have conceptualised an area to present quality acts to their guests, she said. It's a very stylish move they've made and it's exciting to be part of the team that makes that happen.

Ingrid said she was looking forward to creating a good atmosphere in the intimate setting provided by the Sky Lounge.

There's a fair amount of flexibility in this kind of concert, so if we sense the audience really likes a certain type of music or song, we might adjust our song list on the night, Ingrid said.

That's the wonderful thing about live music, and jazz in particular ' you have that ability to shapeshift in the moment and be a little bit spontaneous with what you present.

Tickets are $30 plus booking fee. Book online:
